Marking its 5th year anniversary, the highly anticipated East Bay Women's Conference presented by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce and The PMI Group, Inc., in association with Chevron Corporation, convenes Monday, March 1, 2010, at the San Ramon Marriott, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year's event, Navigating Change - Facing Forward, with award-winning journalist Lisa Ling as keynote speaker, promises to be a full day of inspired learning, networking, and socializing. The EBWC is a distinctive event of programming excellence that blends premier keynote and featured speaker presentations; breakout sessions that focus on critical issues important to women who strive to shape their personal and professional lives; more than 40 exhibitor booths; and an end-of-day reception with entertainment, refreshments, and surprises. The EBWC annually sells out to an audience of more than 525 attendees, who have responded enthusiastically to past powerhouse speakers Linda Ellerbee, Gail Sheehy, Madam Jehan Sadat, and Isabel Allende. Lisa Ling, Keynote Speaker, 2010 EBWC Lisa Ling, award-winning, international journalist, is host of National Geographic Explorer, reporter for Channel One News, and special correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC’s Nightline, and CNN’s critically acclaimed series Planet in Peril, among other journalistic activities. Ms. Ling has reported on critical issues from more than two dozen countries, produced eight documentaries for PBS, and co-authored Mother, Daughter, Sister, Bride: Rituals of Womanhood. She speaks to audiences about her journeys as a reporter writing about real-life adventures and uses her role as a journalist to focus on navigating positive change.
Kathy Buckley, Featured Speaker, 2010 EBWC Kathy Buckley, “America’s First Hearing Impaired Comedienne” and author of If You Could Hear What I See: Lessons About Life, Luck and the Choices We Make, has turned roadblocks into springboards for both humor and education; she spreads her messages of open communications and open-mindedness through comedy and motivational speaking. Among other awards, Ms. Buckley is the recipient of the Woman of the Year Award from the Oralingua School for the Hearing Impaired, the American Hero Award from the City of Hope, and the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award.
Lorrie Sullenberger, Featured Speaker, 2010 EBWC Lorrie Sullenberger, fitness expert and founder of Fit and Fabulous – Outdoors, is a regularly featured health expert on ABC 7’s Views From the Bay. Married to local hero Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, Ms. Sullenberger is a hero herself to hundreds of women whose lives have been changed because of her infectious enthusiasm and advocacy for women’s health. Ms. Sullenberger inspires women at all fitness levels to navigate their own change and discover more exhilarating lifestyles by incorporating the outdoors in their quests for better health.
Sunne Wright McPeak, Featured Speaker, 2010 EBWC Sunne Wright McPeak, President/CEO of the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF), a statewide non-profit whose mission is to "close the digital divide" by accelerating the deployment and adoption of broadband. Prior to joining CETF, Ms. McPeak was Secretary of the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, the State's larges agency with 42,000 employees. Ms. McPeak served on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors for 15 years and is Past President/CEO of both the Bay Area Council (7 years) and Bay Area Economic Forum (3 years).
