Walnut Creek Magazine recently released their Best of 2018 Reader's Choice Awards issue, and the Walnut Creek Art & Wine Festival won Best Community Event. The Chamber is honored to receive this recognition for the third consecutive year. We sincerely thank the generous sponsors and all the hard working Chamber members and community volunteers who have helped bring this event to our city for 37 years. Yours Humanly raised $92,000 at its recent 2019 Gift of Schooling Gala for its local and global programs that provide underprivileged children in underserved communities access to quality education.In addition to supporting Yours Humanly's ongoing initiatives, gala funds purchased an entire STEM kit that will benefit 13,000 students in the Mt. Diablo USD. Internationally, funds will provide annual scholarships to children in Haiti, Cambodia, and Nepal, and fund the purchase and installation of computers at an underserved school in Cambodia. Yours Humanly has served more than 20,700 children in six countries. Read more here
Crisis Resiliency Workshop
Business interruptions due to an emergency or large-scale disaster take a toll on owners, employees, and profits. The Cities and Chambers of Commerce of Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Concord, and Walnut Creek are partnering with the Small Business Development Center to share resources needed to protect the well-being of a company and its employees. Our economy will rebound quickly from any disaster by making sure our local businesses are as ready and prepared as possible. Admission is $20 and includes lunch. We joined Flashlight Books for their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their Grand Opening in Walnut Creek. Flashlight Books is an independent bookstore dedicated to promoting a sustained love of reading in children. They provide a space that is community-focused and celebrates curiosity, passion, and learning. In addition to being a store for books, they will host events, create a tutoring space, and run programs for kids and teens. Be sure to check them out!
